Final rules created for Government funded stem cell research

Now that President Obama has lifted restrictions on stem cell research, the US govt. is currently creating a master list of which embryonic stem cells qualify for taxpayer funded research.

The National Institute of health is still holding steady that it will only use cells culled from fertility clinic embryos that would otherwise be thrown away. They are not considering cells that were created specifically for research, because they are hiding behind an ignorant excuse maintaining their position of having rigorous ethical standards. Federal Law still prohibits using taxpayer money to create or destroy an embryo. The huge issue that our govt. is trying to deal with is how do we work with cells that were initially created using private money solely for research?

Our new rules take effect today, but the guidelines are much different from those held in the past. From now on, newly made stem cells must come with a receipt documentation stating that the woman who donated the embryo has given full consent. Such documentation is not included with donated stem cells that have essentially been sitting and waiting for the whole time that a dip-shit named George W. was in office.

It’s really about time that our country embraces this technology. I feel like weve possily missed numerous chances to make new strides in medicine for and treatment of degenerative diseases due to our lack of funding and support from our governement. A bunch of tokes go out to President Obama for making a socially conscious and much needed decision.

US Senate apologizes for slavery

June 19th was the 144 year anniversary if the abolishment of slavery. And just 5 days ago the US senate has decided to make a formal apology. In what was a unanimous vote in the senate, it will surely pass in the house  and after that Democrat Tom Harkins says there will be a “formal celebration” sometime next month.

While I commend the Us government for taking a step in the right direction, i’m not sure its the correct first step. Slavery in America’s past has contributed to many african american’s warped self-image,cruel sterotypes, and has presented numerous other obstacles for the average african american citizen. Slavery has also I believe given african americans a dose of reality and hopefully many people can realize that racism is still very alive in the US with events like this still taking place its a surprise an apology has even been given. I really think that to begin to heal the wounds of those affected they must seek therapy and work through their left over pain and an apology just wont do it.

Andy Dick does PETA (no not the whole organization,he’s sober now)

In what I think is one of PETA’s most famehungry ingenious attempts at publicity, a young jeff conway Andy Dick appeared as an evil Ronald Mcdonald outside of Chicago’s Rock N’ Roll Mcdonalds. On thursday Dick and a group of protesters were there to shed light upon the alleged inhumane killing methods of Mcdonalds suppliers’. Somebody is desperate for work really passionate about animal rights?

Ryan Huling, a campaign organizer for the event stated that all they are looking for is a merciful way to handle the problem. Among their problems with the largest fast food chain in the world: they claim that Mcdonalds US suppliers are torturing the chickens by slitting their throat to induce death as well as scalding them alive.

Having seen one of the PETA sponsored videos on how the killing process is done for many animals entering the food industry, I can honestly say that something needs to be done, I just have no clue as to what. I’m also not sure what i would do without some of the great food choices at mcdonalds…Who can live without mcnuggets?

Melissa Etheridge talks medical marijuana on Anderson Cooper 360

All this week on Anderson Cooper 360 he’ll be covering many aspects of marijuana, both medicinal and recreational, in a series of special segments titled “America’s High: The Case for and Against Pot.” In one of the segments Anderson will interview different people involved in the the medical marijuana world such as the owner of “The Farmacy”, which is one of the most well known dispensaries in Southern California, offering medicinal marijuana and and edibles for patients. In part of Mondays’ segment for the series, Anderson spoke with recording artist Melissa Etheridge about her battle with cancer and how medicinal marijuana helped her get through the debilitating side effects of her chemo, without having to resort to chemical laden pain prescriptions that are highly addictive and themselves carry a great deal of side effects.

I’m pretty fuckin pumped that people are finally beginning to give our cause some mainstream attention because every bit of awareness and truth that we can spread counts. Though im not in the slightest a fan of Ellen Degeneres Melissa Etheridge’s music I can completely respect her courage and effort that it takes to be a public and vocal supporter of marijuana. I’d like to send a big toke and exhale to Etheridge and her baby mama…yaw yaw

Obama Launches US Ocean Protection Plan

Still in it’s very early stages, Pres. Obama has announced that he’s creating an ocean protection plan that will comprehensively provide national policy for protecting our priceless seas, coastal , areas and our great lakes.

Its about time that someone besides Al Gore cares about our earth cause he has a bit too many chins for me, it was beginning to get hard to look at him…and they’re all cascading chins…none are right on top of the next one….ok ok  i’ll stop talking about Al Gore, I like the things he does and has done for our country, but he still looks funny…

With all the things currently on his plate I think its refreshing to know that Obama is up for the challenge of helping our ever deteriorating environment. He has issued a presidential memorandum calling for the formation of a strategy to protect the ocean and the creation of a task force that will be given 90 days to propose policy that will inevitably maintain our oceanic ecosystems  and a structural framework for coordinated implementation of the system. I don’t know how to swim myself persea, well i can do a doggy paddle that could probably rival that of michael phelps’ , but only because its the only thing I know how to do when in a body of water apart from urinate..j/k i dont piss in public bodies of water, only close friends pools. glad hes saving the oceans and great lakes though…now for our econonmy and every rising defecit???
