New Marijuana legalization initiatives have been filed in California…

With the state of California still handing out fucking IOUs to businesses like they’re playing Monopoly because of their immense debt, one of the new plans could be just what the state needs. A trio of Norml affiliated Northern CA attorneys rallied together to create the Tax, Control, and Regulate Cannabis Act of 2010. The second new and better written initiative was created by Richard Lee, founder and president of Oaksterdam University in Oakland, CA.
The 1st act that was created by the lawyers from North CA is in a nut shell complete state legalization with regulation and taxing, while Richard Lee’s bill would give individual cities and counties the right to decide if they wanted cannabis to be taxed and regulated. Richard’s plan would also allow citizens to posses up to one ounce of marijuana and grow their own in a 5×5 grow space regardless of the city or counties choices on regulation and taxing. Richard’s bill is more likely to garner more attention and support because of his financial resources, having already allotted 1.5 million dollars towards signature gathering. We support any kind of reform of the countries corrupt and oppressive marijuana laws so tokes for Lee and the lawyers.
Marijuana use found to significantly reduce risk of head and neck cancers

Cannabis is truly an amazing substance and that’s why I smoke so much. I will probably live until I’m 100, don’t quote me on that one, but I know i’ll get close. In a clinical abstract just published online on the Cancer Prevention Research website, a team of U.S. investigators report that marijuana use, even long-term, is associated with a “significantly reduced risk” of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
This is not the first of these clinical trials. Marijuana related research has been taking place for years. yet it has been ignored by our stupid government and lobbied against by pharmacuetical companies. as well as passed over by mainstream media for fear of losing advertisers that benefit from the prohibition of marijuana. Advertisers like beer and alcohol companies, who if marijuana were legal, would surely lose a large percentage of profits to a substance that can’t kill you. The funny thing is, Bush was doing coke, ignoring things like stem cell research and cannabis related research, fighting wars that were unnecessary and fucking Condoleeza Rice…..get serious world, the people that were aiding in his most shady actions are still in congress. They haven’t gone anywhere and they won’t unless we remove them by electing officials with productive ideas and pro-marijuana stances. Tokes to the researchers who take chances and blaze new paths, all pun intended.
10 reasons to legalize marijuana
Here’s a video from youtube user Hosserlegalize420 that gives 10 great reasons why the US and most of the civilized world should wake up and find some fucking common sense. Cannabis is a plant that is more benign than most of the substances we ingest everyday. Check out the video and keep tokin.
Obama’s new drug Czar, no different than Bush’s???

Looks like were getting more lies from the man with tiny eyes because in a recent interview the new drug-czar, Gil Kerlikowske he was quoted saying:
“Legalization is not in the president’s vocabulary, and it’s not in mine,” he said. … “Marijuana is dangerous and has no medicinal benefit.” The federal government is not going to pull back on its efforts to curtail marijuana farming operations, Gil Kerlikowske, director of the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy, said Wednesday in Fresno.
This is coming from the same man who held a very lax view on marijuana in his former position as police chief of Seattle. Gil also recently called for an end on the war on drugs. It seems to me as though he has a case of the “John flip-flop Kerry” and it really pisses me off. While I know that we are a considerable amount of time away from legalization, it should most certainly be in his brains that while in the Obama administration the issue should be discussed. It’s a pretty big croc of shit for him to pick and chose when he wants to have a progressive intelligent point of view and when he wants to sound like Paula Abdul on a good day. Normal has recently noted that it is stupid of him to make such a comment because they recently featured a study on their site that found the following information:
“Clearly, there is a growing acceptability of the therapeutic practice of medicinal cannabis use amongst organized medicine groups. … Estimates indicate that in 2008, approximately 7,000 American physicians have made such authorizations for a total of approximately 400,000 patients.”
I really hope that he can pull it together and fly straight because positions can be filled and we can find another czar that can stick to one stance on marijuana, one being towards reform and progression, not lies and oppression….im starting to feel a bit like Al Sharpton so i’ll stop now cause that’s never a place u wanna take yourself to, but you get the point…legalize it bitches
Rhode Island senate commission to study legalization of marijuana

Monkey see monkey do isnt just some creepy phrase that my mom said to me when I was younger and would fall victim to my inquisitions. Now the state of Rhode Island has created a “Special Senate Commission to Study the Prohibition of Marijuana,” directly on the heels of the passing of cannabis tax legislation that was just passed in Oakland, CA. The state is considering imposing a $35 tax to each ounce of marijuana sold.
Apart from researching the potential economic benefits of taxing marijuana, the state seeks to answer questions that sites like Norml have had answered since the 80’s and question that all of already know the answers to because we are intelligent cannabis users. Among the questions they want answered are:
“Whether and to what extent Rhode Island youth have access to marijuana despite current laws prohibiting its use. … Whether adults’ use of marijuana has decreased since marijuana became illegal in Rhode Island in 1918. … Whether the current system of marijuana prohibition has created violence in the state of Rhode Island against users or among those who sell marijuana. … Whether the proceeds from the sales of marijuana are funding organized crime, including drug cartels. … Whether those who sell marijuana on the criminal market may also sell other drugs, thus increasing the chances that youth will use other illegal substances.”
The panel created has until January 31, 2010 to deliver the study. When they find out the things that many of us already know what do you think they’ll do? Hopefully make some significant changes to RI law…I wonder if they had ever stopped to think about commissioning some of the people who know cannbis best (fuckin smokers like us) to participate in the study, at any capacity….guess not, but I’ll be fuckin toking everyday studying the subject substance anyways
First trials of Swine Flu vaccine are given in Austrailia

According to Bloomberg.com, CSL is testing the vaccine over the next seven weeks as it prepares to fill orders from Australia, the U.S. and Singapore. The World Health Organization and Melbourne-based CSL’s larger rivals such as Sanofi-Aventis SA will be watching the test to help determine whether one or two shots are needed to protect people and how many doses can be produced. Currently all 204 volunteers are required to keep a diary for six months and record any signs and symbols as it is a new vaccine.
Since the Swine Flu has already killed nearly 700 people globally and sickened many more the World Health Organization has stopped reporting on it’s daily status. That really doesn’t provide any kind of hope for those in the world who might be at risk to catching what has made mexico the shittiest place to go this, but it’s ok just be cautious follow the CDC’s guidelines for prevention. Please don’t catch swine flu people, I don’t know if I would like you
Oakland, California passes new marijuana tax

This is one baby step for California’s budget crisis and an even bigger step toward medical marijuana dispensaries being respected as legitimate businesses. In Oakland, CA yesterday voters made the city the first in the US to tax medical marijuana dispensaries, in what was said to be a landslide vote. About 80% voted in favor of the tax according to the Almeda County registrar of voters. This new tax comes at a time when Oakland is in massive debt, like most cities in the state. What’s interesting is that it wasn’t the city council that proposed the tax or a legislator, it was a local dispensary owner who felt that he and the cities other dispensaries should put some of their excess income to good use by putting back into the community. One of the dispensary owners that CNN spoke to said that under the new tax he would be contributing an extra 350,000 roughly each year. The new tax measures out to be about $18 for every $1,000 in cannabis sales.
This is fucking sweet to see happening. It seems like it was just yesterday when Arnold the Governator mentioned that maybe we should look into researching the pros and cons of legalization and now one city in CA has imposed this new legislation. Could this be a sign of what is to happen in cities like Los Angeles where there are over 600 dispensaries and collectives? We certainly hope so because we don’t know how much longer companies in CA will continue to take IOUs from the state. There are currently more places where you can obtain legal marijuana in LA than where you can buy Starbucks and Mcdonalds french fries and if all of them can be taxed a significant amount of revenue would be generated for the state. Maybe then the rest of the country will realize that it is a real way to gather funds for our growing defecit and begin law reform. Tokes for Oakland and its forward thinking citizens.
