New Marijuana legalization initiatives have been filed in California…

With the state of California still handing out fucking IOUs to businesses like they’re playing Monopoly because of their immense debt, one of the new plans could be just what the state needs. A trio of Norml affiliated Northern CA attorneys rallied together to create the Tax, Control, and Regulate Cannabis Act of 2010. The second new and better written initiative was created by Richard Lee, founder and president of Oaksterdam University in Oakland, CA.
The 1st act that was created by the lawyers from North CA is in a nut shell complete state legalization with regulation and taxing, while . Richard’s bill would give individual cities and counties the right to decide if they wanted cannabis to be taxed and regulated. Richard’s plan would also allow citizens to posses up to one ounce of marijuana and grow their own in a 5×5 grow space regardless of the city or counties choices on regulation and taxing. Richard’s bill is more likely to garner more attention and support because of his financial resources, having already allotted 1.5 million dollars towards signature gathering. We support any kind of reform of the countries corrupt and oppressive marijuana laws so tokes for Lee and the lawyers.

Oakland, California passes new marijuana tax
This is one baby step for California’s budget crisis and an even bigger step toward medical marijuana dispensaries being respected as legitimate businesses. In Oakland, CA yesterday voters made the city the first in the US to tax medical marijuana dispensaries, in what was said to be a landslide vote. About 80% voted in favor of the tax according to the Almeda County registrar of voters. This new tax comes at a time when Oakland is in massive debt, like most cities in the state. What’s interesting is that it wasn’t the city council that proposed the tax or a legislator, it was a local dispensary owner who felt that he and the cities other dispensaries should put some of their excess income to good use by putting back into the community. One of the dispensary owners that CNN spoke to said that under the new tax he would be contributing an extra 350,000 roughly each year. The new tax measures out to be about $18 for every $1,000 in cannabis sales.
This is fucking sweet to see happening. It seems like it was just yesterday when Arnold the Governator mentioned that maybe we should look into researching the pros and cons of legalization and now one city in CA has imposed this new legislation. Could this be a sign of what is to happen in cities like Los Angeles where there are over 600 dispensaries and collectives? We certainly hope so because we don’t know how much longer companies in CA will continue to take IOUs from the state. There are currently more places where you can obtain legal marijuana in LA than where you can buy Starbucks and Mcdonalds french fries and if all of them can be taxed a significant amount of revenue would be generated for the state. Maybe then the rest of the country will realize that it is a real way to gather funds for our growing defecit and begin law reform. Tokes for Oakland and its forward thinking citizens.
Need to find cannabis on your Iphone…there’s now an app for that
Apparently the Iphone really does do everything. Apple has approved a new $2.99 iPhone app, simply named Cannabis. The application was created by the people at ajnag.com (yes, that’s ganja backwards) and the purpose of this amazing app is to help locate legal medical marijuana in states and other places that it can be found. Cannabis, just like other location-based apps takes the known locations of medical collectives, dispensaries, clinics, doctors, and organizations all from 3 differents sources and aggregates them onto a google map.
The app also helps out those of us who live in areas where cannabis dispensaries and collectives aren’t legal. It will provide the user with the closest legal cannabis organization to encourage reform. The one feture that I find most appealing is the fact that it has most of the coffeeshops in Amsterdam listed and makes it incredibly easy for me next time I venture to the motherland. No longer will I be too stoned to find my way from Rusland to Grey Area. Check out the video to see it in action and use this app wisely. Share with your fellow man or just me…tokes for ajnag.com for creating such a great app
Norml’s Steve Epstein testifies on behalf of marijuana bills in Mass
On Tuesday, Steve Epstein testified on behalf of marijuana legalization, decriminalization, and medical marijuana all after a huge bog hit before Massachusetts judiciary committee. During his testimony he gave a detailed view into the history of marijuana reform in MA, which is very similar to that of many other states in the US. He also provided the committee with personal stories of pro marijuana supporters, one being that of an elderly grandmother who uses medical marijuana to deal with a degenerative disease. The video is filled with knowledge so watch it and learn something folks. Tokes for Steve because I’ve testifies in front of a judiciary committee and lets just say most of them suck balls and are extrememly ignorant it wasn’t the most exciting thing ever.
Judge puts gag order on marijuana supporter, baring him from activism
Well I guess it looks like another one of our civil liberties as Americans is up for grabs and freedom of speech is its’ name. Judge John “Jack” Delaney of South Dakota recently forbid a Mr. Bob Newland of SD from taking any public role in the campaign to legalize marijuana for medical uses for one year. The restriction was part of the judge’s sentence issued Monday for Newland’s conviction for felony pot possession. Delaney sentenced Newland to a year in jail but suspended all but 45 days, with stipulations including random searches and weekly drug tests and a ban on public advocacy for medical marijuana. Newland could end up serving all or part of the remaining jail time if he violates terms of the sentence.
While the sentence for felony marijuana possession under current laws was seemingly reasonable, how in the fuck does a judge have the right to take away someone’s right to campaign for something that they believe in??? The fact that a judge has the right to inflict his personal views upon a person through sentencing should raise a huge flag for intelligent citizens of the US as to where our country is headed if things like this continue to happen.
Delaney also lectured Newland on the lies that have been created through racism about problems of marijuana use, particularly among youths, and told the outspoken advocate for legalizing marijuana for medicinal use that he was “not going to take a position as a public figure who got a light sentence.” This is seriously crazy shit, but the American Civil Liberties Union of South Dakota is currently looking into the sentence. Also if you like I do, feel the need to contact Judge Delany, he can be reached at jack@judgedelaney.com……I hope you enoyed the creepy cruise ship pic beautiful picture of Delany and his badger faced wife. Since Bob Newland can’t currently campaign in the direction of common sense which is legalization, we must do it for him….Tokes for Newland and his upcoming jail time.
It’s my body and I’ll do what I want: toker’s edition
No, this isn’t another 16year old pregnant hillbilly girl on Maury Povich staking her claim to her crab baby vessel. This my friends is a video that comes to us from youtube user hosserlegalize420 who created this video that features some very thought provoking and at times, a bit radical statements. Though some statements made are questionable, specifically cannabis curing cancer: yes I know that some studies have been done where tumors where destroyed by cannabinoids, but there isn’t enough research to make such a claim. Overrall most of her thoughts are what we need to be hearing more of because if no one is making it, noise cannot be heard.(minus the comment about “our black president”, it’s a little suspect) Check the video and pass it to a friend.
New Hampshire Gov. vetoes Medical Marijuana Bill
Gov. John Lynch vetoed legislation Friday that would have made New Hampshire the 14th state to legalize marijuana use by severely ill people. Lynch has said that his main concerns were his political career how marijuana was being cultivated and the way it was to be distributed.
go here to check out the bill
In the veto message Lunch noted:
“I understand and empathize with the advocates for allowing medical marijuana use in New Hampshire. However, the fact remains that marijuana use for any purpose remains illegal under federal law.”
We don’t buy anything that Lynch has tried to sell us on this….Politics shouldnt be about deceptive dilemmas and flat out bullshit….To voice your support of this bill and similar legislation, contact Governor John Lynch at (603)271-2121
oh and please excuse the crazy eyes in the picture….I know he would have apologized for letting you see him in his natural state.
California group sells Medical Marijuana online
Don’t re-adjust your eyes people, (it’s possible, ask Gary Busey) California is right before our eyes, transforming into more of an Amsterdam-like place, where marijuana can be bought online by everyone those in the state with medical marijuana prescriptions. Artists Collective, a non-profit medical marijuana delivery service is now advertising their amazing weed products to customers via twitter. They carry all of the things any conventional medical marijuana dispensary would have (edibles, cannabis, pre-rolled blunts and joints) and they fucking deliver. Someone please explain why I don’t live in California right now???…..If I could really not have to play telephone super tag to obtain some herbal refreshment life would be a bit simpler….think pre-”pilled out” Paula Abdul simple…yes like 90’s Clinton administration simple. Ok, back to the greatness that is delivery of weed directly to your front door. I almost forgot one of the best parts though…..there’s no delivery charge! The service, which can either be contacted by telephone or through their web site, does free deliveries, but still charges for the drugs. They even have an incentive program for members of the collective, offering free grams of marijuana and samples. Since President Obama vowed to eliminate DEA raids on medical marijuana distributors, I don’t see Artists Collective having a problem with their creative venture. Good luck and keep tokin fuckers.
Melissa Etheridge talks medical marijuana on Anderson Cooper 360
All this week on Anderson Cooper 360 he’ll be covering many aspects of marijuana, both medicinal and recreational, in a series of special segments titled “America’s High: The Case for and Against Pot.” In one of the segments Anderson will interview different people involved in the the medical marijuana world such as the owner of “The Farmacy”, which is one of the most well known dispensaries in Southern California, offering medicinal marijuana and and edibles for patients. In part of Mondays’ segment for the series, Anderson spoke with recording artist Melissa Etheridge about her battle with cancer and how medicinal marijuana helped her get through the debilitating side effects of her chemo, without having to resort to chemical laden pain prescriptions that are highly addictive and themselves carry a great deal of side effects.
I’m pretty fuckin pumped that people are finally beginning to give our cause some mainstream attention because every bit of awareness and truth that we can spread counts. Though im not in the slightest a fan of Ellen Degeneres Melissa Etheridge’s music I can completely respect her courage and effort that it takes to be a public and vocal supporter of marijuana. I’d like to send a big toke and exhale to Etheridge and her baby mama…yaw yaw
